If there is anything to take away from the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, it’s this: electric vehicles and EV swaps are not going to ruin the industry. Wandering the Las Vegas convention center’s hallways, noodling between the booths, we spotted numerous compelling vehicles that either started life as EVs or were converted to electric power as part of their makeovers.
What is clear is that electrics are going to strengthen the car hobby, and even better, the aftermarket is embracing the swap side by making it easier to use scrapyard EV parts or even utilize brand new units and package everything you need—including a battery pack—into a single kit. Also, because of the size of the motors and customization of battery packs and their running gear, destructive modification isn’t required for a majority of these swaps and are literally bolt-in.
