ABB FIA Formula E World Championship to be held in Rome

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship E-Prix, before the end of Season 9, will be held this weekend in Rome, Italy. The Rome E-Prix, one of the highlights of the all-electric championship, will feature two races for the third consecutive year. Jean-Eric Vergne is currently fifth in the drivers’ rankings and is still in the fight for a third world title.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Italian capital will host rounds 13 and 14 of Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The bumpy track is well known to the 11 teams on the grid, featuring several sloping corners in quick succession, and it’s set to host a pair of highly competitive races once more this weekend.

DS Automobiles and Jean-Eric Vergne are still in the fight for the world title, and the team heads into the penultimate E-Prix of the season with the firm intention of scoring more points.

The Frenchman – who won Race 1 in Rome in 2021, then finished second in 2022 – has everything it takes to put in another great performance. Reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne, who was also a winner in Rome in 2021, will also be highly motivated to deliver an additional podium for the DS PENSKE team.

As well as the two races, there will be a practice session dedicated to a rookie drivers test in Rome. Yann Ehrlacher, a two-time WTCR champion and simulator development driver for DS, will take the wheel of the DS E-TENSE FE23. The two races of the Rome E-Prix will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July at 15:00 CET.

Eugenio Franzetti, DS Performance director:

“We’re reaching the home straight! In just two weeks, this intense and captivating Season 9 will reach its final conclusion. The gap to the top will be difficult to close but we will fight to the end as the DS PENSKE team is still in the fight for a title with JEV. We’ve worked hard to prepare for the races in Rome and we have high expectations. Our drivers have already won there with different generations of cars and they have a good feeling with the circuit. With a competitive DS E-TENSE FE23 and two drivers at ease on this challenging track, we’ve got exactly the right package to take away a good result!”
