Nissan e.dams all set for the eagerly anticipated Jakarta E-Prix
The Nissan e.dams Formula E Team heads to Jakarta for the first time to compete on a new street circuit for Round 9 of the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The inaugural Jakarta E-Prix will take place on a 2.37-mile circuit against the backdrop of the city’s famous bay. The purpose-built 18-turn course around the Ancol Beach City resort is the third new track in three years for the all-electric racing series.
This race marks the midway point of the season, and with sweltering temperatures expected (32°C on average), teams and drivers will face a fresh set of challenges as they learn the new circuit and strive to optimise both race performance and energy management.
Nissan e.dams Formula E drivers Sébastien Buemi and Maximilian Günther are aiming for good solid results for the second half of the season after struggling to find pace in Rounds 7 and 8 at the Berlin E-Prix double-header.
“It is great to see Formula E visiting this part of the world,” said Tommaso Volpe, general manager, Nissan Formula E, and managing director, Nissan e.dams Formula E Team. “We don’t have as much information for this race as for other locations we’ve visited previously, so it will be very interesting to see how teams adapt to find the best possible performance in the hot, humid conditions. The flat, new sea-level circuit is certain to soak up the solar rays, proving a challenge for tire and battery management, and we could be in for the odd tropical shower to mix things up. We hope the smooth tarmac means we can use less extreme suspension settings than in the last three races. There are certainly a lot of factors at play, and I have no doubt that it will be an exciting race.”
The Jakarta round is a single-header on Saturday, giving the team just one day to find speed and grab important championship points.
The team is theming its presence in Formula E to Nissan’s road EVs. Buemi will race his #23 Nissan Ariya, named after the Japanese manufacturer’s all-new, all-electric crossover SUV. Teammate Günther’s #22 Nissan LEAF is named after the brand’s well-known EV, first launched in 2010.
