The new all-electric Opel Corsa GSE has received the Carwow Car of the Year Award 2027 in the “Fun-to-Drive Car” category, combining 281 hp, a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 5.5 seconds and everyday practicality.
The Opel Corsa GSE has secured its first major award after being named “Fun-to-Drive Car” at the Carwow Car of the Year Awards 2027. The recognition, presented by the independent editorial team of Carwow Germany, highlights the electric hot hatch’s performance, handling and driving characteristics.
Following its debut at the Paris Motor Show and its market launch, the new Opel Corsa GSE has attracted attention for combining high-performance electric mobility with the practicality of a compact hatchback. The model is already available to order and represents the latest chapter in Opel’s performance-oriented GSE lineup.
Opel Corsa GSE Recognized for Driving Performance
The Carwow Germany jury praised the Corsa GSE for its combination of power, braking performance and handling technology. With 281 hp, 355-millimetre brakes, supportive sports seats and a mechanical front-axle limited-slip differential, the electric hatchback delivers the characteristics expected from a performance-focused compact car.
Patrick Dinger, Head of Opel Germany, welcomed the recognition, emphasizing that the Corsa GSE continues Opel’s tradition of exciting hot hatches while demonstrating the driving potential of electric vehicles. The award also marks an important achievement for the company’s expanding electric performance portfolio.

281 HP Electric Motor Delivers Record Acceleration
The new Opel Corsa GSE features a 207 kW (281 hp) electric motor producing 345 Nm of torque, matching the output of the Opel Mokka GSE. However, the Corsa GSE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating current production Opel. Its maximum speed reaches 180 km/h.
Performance-focused engineering includes a lowered chassis and a Torsen limited-slip differential designed to improve traction and power distribution during cornering. An exclusive active sports sound system also responds to acceleration and vehicle speed, adding an audible dimension to the electric driving experience.
Sporty Exterior Design and GSE Interior Features
The Opel Corsa GSE distinguishes itself from conventional Corsa models through a range of performance-inspired design elements. These include a dedicated front bumper, black exterior cladding, a rear spoiler and distinctive 18-inch alloy wheels that emphasize its sporty appearance.
Inside, the electric hot hatch features performance seats with integrated headrests and GSE branding. The driver-focused cabin combines sporty styling with the comfort and functionality expected from a modern compact electric vehicle.
Everyday Practicality Meets Electric Performance
Despite its performance credentials, the new Opel Corsa GSE retains the everyday usability of the standard electric Corsa. Luggage capacity ranges from 267 to 1,042 litres, while standard equipment includes heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a 180-degree reversing camera, navigation, adaptive cruise control and Keyless Entry & Start.
The model also features a bidirectional onboard charger supporting Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing the vehicle’s battery to supply electricity to compatible external devices. Opel has additionally demonstrated the car’s long-distance capabilities through a journey from Zaragoza to Paris, highlighting its suitability beyond short urban drives.
Carwow Awards Highlight Electric Hot Hatch Appeal
The 2027 Carwow Car of the Year Awards marked the fifth edition of the automotive recognition program. Vehicles were evaluated across eleven categories, with the expert jury considering factors including performance, pricing, design, interior quality, sustainability, efficiency, comfort and practicality.
By winning the “Fun-to-Drive Car” distinction, the Opel Corsa GSE reinforces the growing appeal of electric performance hatchbacks. Combining rapid acceleration, specialized chassis technology and practical everyday features, the model demonstrates how electric vehicles can deliver both driving excitement and daily functionality.
